Superficial chemical peels
AHA (alpha hydroxy acids)
- Glycolic acid (from sugar cane) and lactic acid (from fermented milk) are most common. These peels should be done regularly for glowing, healthy skin
- Lactic acid improves skin hydration and brightness; is great for dry skin
- Glycolic acid helps to treat fine lines and mild skin irregularities
BHA (beta hydroxy acids)
A salicylic acid peel works wonders for oily, acne-prone skin. It’s lipid-based, which means it loves oil and can penetrate skin that is oilier. It is also anti-inflammatory and helps to control oil production, which reduces the formation of acne.
Jessner’s Peels
- Perfect combo of lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol (helps peels penetrate better)
- Other acids can be added to the peel to help brighten the skin and treat various skin conditions such as rosacea
- Adding a retinoic acid layer on top helps with skin heling and enhances the effect
